Jüergen Hubbert, known as “Mr Mercedes” has spent four decades in senior positions with one of the most respected car manufacturers in the world.
As a Board member of DaimlerChrysler AG, he was responsible for the Mercedes Car Group, which included the Mercedes Benz, Maybach, smart, Mercedes-Benz MacLaren and AMG brands,
After studying Engineering and Motor Production at the University of Stuttgart, he joined Daimler-Benz as a graduate in 1965. In 1985 he became Head of Corporate Planning, reporting directly to the Main Board. Three years later he was appointed to the Board of the newly created Mercedes-Benz AG, and headed the cars division. He was responsible for the development and production of, amongst others, the A-Class, M-Class and CLK and smart, and led the division to a high level of profitability.
After the merger with Chrysler, Jurgern Hubbert became a Main Board member, with responsibility for the cars division. He retired from the company in 2004, but remained as a consultant until 2005.
Apart from his activities at Daimler, he also took up a teaching post in 1990 at the Faculty of Engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. In 1998 he was made an Honorary Professor.
In 2001 he was named Manager of the Year.
