SPEAKER: ULRIKA JONSSON

 

Ulrika Jonsson was born in Stockholm, Sweden and moved to England at the age of 12.

She first appeared on screen in May 1989 as Weather Presenter for TV-am. In 1992 she went on to present LWT’s Gladiators. Most recently, in October 2004 she co-hosted Sky 1’s highly successful The Match with Mark Durden-Smith.

She was the host of the prime time BBC1 Saturday night game show Dog Eat Dog, as well as family makeover show Home On Their Own and reality show Mr Right, both for ITV. In September 2002 she played host to the new ITV show How Do I Look? and ITV repeated her interiors show, Des Res. She hosted the second series of How Do I Look? in July 2003.

In September 1995 she joined Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer as regular team captain in their highly successful comedy quiz show, Shooting Stars. In 1997 the show played to capacity audiences in a live version at the Hammersmith Labatts Apollo in London, followed by a sell out nationwide tour. In 2001 the show was successfully revived and ran through 2002.


Her comedy show, It’s Ulrika, written by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, was broadcast in August 1997 on BBC2 and was released on video. Later that year she interviewed the then Prime Minister, John Major, at No. 10 for The Great Big Election Programme for BBC2.

In the past, Ulrika has co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest with Terry Wogan and also the Royal Variety Performance. She went on to present Ulrika In Euroland, where she looked into the European Monetary Union and interviewed Gordon Brown, the Chancellor of the Exchequer. She has also presented the National Lottery Dreamworld for BBC1, was the host of the celebrity auction spectacular, Men For Sale, for three years on ITV, and has also presented Miss World for Channel 5. In 2003 she appeared in Fame Academy for Comic Relief in 2003.

She published her autobiography Honest in October 2002, which was an instant bestseller.

In August 2003, she married Lance Gerrard-Wright and they live in Berkshire with her son Cameron and two daughters Bo and Martha.
