SPEAKER: SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON
Sven-Goran Eriksson joined England
as National Team Coach in January 2001, on a five-year contract. Having
won the Italian League and Cup double in 2000 with Lazio, to go with
an impressive record of success at clubs across Europe, he joined
England as one of the top coaches in the world.
Erikssons first game in charge was the 3-0 victory against Spain
at Villa Park in a friendly international on 28 February 2001.
Four subsequent wins in consecutive games ensured that Eriksson achieved
the most successful start of any England coach.
When England produced an outstanding performance by crushing Germany
5-1 in Munich on September 1st 2001, and beating Greece on 6th October
2001, Sven Goran Eriksson earned himself a place in the hearts of
the nation as he guided England to automatic qualification for the
World Cup Finals in Japan / Korea in 2002.
Now even those who have absolutely no knowledge of football, recognise
the unique achievements of Sven Goran Eriksson.

1982: Leaves Gothenburg to join Benfica.
1983: Wins Portuguese championship and domestic cup, loses in final
of the UEFA Cup
to Anderlecht.
1984: Wins Portuguese championship
1984: Appointed manager of Roma
1986: Wins Italian Cup
1987: Appointed as manager of Fiorentina
1989: Rejoins Benfica.
1990: Runner-up in European Cup final, losing 1-0 to AC Milan
1991: Wins Portuguese championship
1992: Appointed as manager of Sampdoria
1994: Wins Italian Cup
1997: Appointed as manager of Lazio
1998: Wins Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup
1999: Wins European Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Super Cup
