MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER: JURGEN GROBLER
Jürgen Grobler moved to Britain from the former GDR in 1991
to be the head coach at Leander Club. He was appointed Chief Coach
for Men by the ARA after the 1992 Olympic Games and has held that
position since then.
Since 1991 he has been the coach to Matthew Pinsent and Steven Redgrave
encompassing their unprecedented and unbroken run of success in the
coxless pair with four World Championship gold medals and two Olympic
golds from 1991 to 1996. Since then he has been coach of the men's
coxless four and has taken them to gold medals in the 1997, 1998 and
1999 World Championships and Olympic glory in both Sydney 2000 and
Athens 2004.
As a mark of his fantastic achievements over the years Jürgen
was awarded the International Rowing Federation (FISA) 2000 "Coach
of the Year" award. He was also elected by the FISA Executive
Committee and Competitive Rowing Commission. 2004 saw Jürgen
win the lifetime achievement award for his services to British rowing.
Jürgen lives in Henley-on-Thames with his wife and son.
